Are Your College Interior Signs This Much Fun?

If you’re an avid reader of our blog, and who isn’t, then you likely remember back to our October 21st post about us making some floor graphics for Lewis & Clark College to help guide students to the new location of their IT Help Desk. If you missed it or want to relive the magic, you can click here. For our latest project, they came to us again for a variety of interior signs for colleges in Portland, OR.

About Lewis & Clark

Named after the famed expedition that made its way across the country to the Pacific Coast, Lewis & Clark College prides itself on pursuing new ways of knowing by combining pioneering collaboration with classic liberal learning. Consisting of the Graduate School of Education and Counseling, Law School, and the College of Arts and Sciences, it’s a private institution with a public conscience.

Though the namesake explorers made their way without any formal signage, Lewis & Clark College wanted to make sure none of their students faced the same trials and tribulations as the explorers did as they went in search of the new Information Technology (IT) Help Desk. After seeing what we could do with floor graphics for colleges in Portland, OR, they came back to the mighty sign makers at Specialty Graphic Solutions for new signage.

Making the IT Desk Fun

Come with us on a virtual journey to the new IT Help Desk in the Aubrey R. Watzek Library on campus. Watch your step! First, you’ll see the blue stripe painted on the wall. To point the way, we created simple cut vinyl lettering that the client was able to install on their own with the help of our easy to follow instructions.

Now, as you follow the lettering and stripe – watch your step again – you can’t help but notice the bright signs. Let us tell you about those. We started with PVC, which we contour cut into unique shapes. We then printed out fun designs in bright colors on Oracal vinyl and laminate. These were then adhered to both sides of the PVC panel. The client was able to install the finished product on their own.

As you can see, once again, giving it the ol’ college try paid off again for SGS. Lewis & Clark was more than satisfied with their new hanging signs for colleges in Portland, OR.

Are You Rearranging Your Facilities?

You don’t need to be an institution of higher education to take advantage of the many wayfinding signage options that make visiting your building more pleasant. It can be frustrating entering a building and not being able to figure out where to go. This is especially frustrating when you’re a regular, and you show up one day, and everything has moved around without warning.

Help regulars and new visitors alike avoid falling into the Twilight Zone by clearly announcing any moves you are going to make well ahead of time and keeping your signs updated with the proper locations of different departments. Contact SGS today to make your venue a more enjoyable place to visit.
