Clean up Shabby Channel Letters with Sign Maintenance in Vancouver, WA

By | Channel Letter Signs | No Comments

Most sign shops will take care of the design, fabrication, and installation of your channel letters. Then, it’s almost as if they close up their shop and move to another town as they avoid your pleas for help in maintaining their new markers. The mighty sign makers at Specialty Graphic Solutions like it here, so we remain available to provide channel letter sign maintenance in Vancouver, WA.

What We Do to Your Signs

Channel letter signs are pretty popular in the region. This is because they make your enterprise visible at all hours of the day and night. If you don’t believe us, go for a drive in a commercial area at 3:23 am tomorrow morning. You’ll be greeted with channel letter signs. They’re one of the best tools for showing customers where you’re located and for getting your name out there.

If you don’t maintain these signs, though, they can turn against you. They’ll just become a big advertisement for how you don’t pay attention to details. We don’t want that to happen to you, so we offer the following services:

Electrical Component Repairs – Whether a light bulb has burned out, a pest has eaten your electrical components for dinner, or you’re having other problems with your illuminated channel letter signs, you can call our experts to fix and troubleshoot any issues. Plus, we’re able to retrofit your neon or fluorescent signs with LEDs, which will help Mother Nature as well as your utility bills.

Regular Sign Cleaning – Before your channel letters can have a negative impact on your organization, it’s a good idea to have them routinely cleaned inside and out. By keeping dirt, leaves, and other debris from building up, you can extend the life of your marker and prevent malfunctions before they happen.

Replacing Raceways or Individual Letters – It’s relatively easy for us to replace individual letters that may be damaged if they aren’t mounted to a raceway and are wired individually. However, we can also update your raceway if it has damage and the letters are fine.

Sign Refurbishing, Refacing, and Restoration – When your channel letters decay to the point where they look like they belong in a haunted house, you still may not need to replace them. When you contact SGS, we’ll see if we can find a more affordable option for you by salvaging some of your materials and only updating the elements that must be replaced. For instance, we might install new acrylic faces for your letters.

If they aren’t properly cared for, even the best signs made from the highest-quality materials will eventually start to show their age in the Pacific Northwest weather. We don’t believe in leaving our clients hanging. That’s why we take care of every step of the sign making and maintenance process. Even if you got your signs from those other guys, we’re completely willing to swallow our pride and fix any issues you may be having.

No one has time these days to stop at multiple places for their channel letter sign guides. That’s why we’ve put together this one-stop guide to channel letters in Vancouver, WA. So, just head toward that blog that has Specialty Graphic Solutions spelled out in bright attractive letters that are clearly visible both day and night…much like your future channel letters!

From the Front to the Back: We Shine Light on Channel Letters

What are the most requested styles of channel letters? Let’s count up from #1:

 Front-Lit Letters Front-Lit Letters

Front-Lit Channel Letters – Standard front-lit channel letters are the high school football quarterback of channel letter signs. They’re popular and attract all of the ladies (and men for that matter). To create frames in the shape of your preferred typeface, high-gauge aluminum is routed with smoothly welded edges. We prefer aluminum because it’s durable and rust-resistant. The light then shines through acrylic faces in any color you want.

 Reverse-Lit Letters Reverse-Lit Letters

Reverse-Lit Channel Letters – Commonly known as halo-lit letters, the light comes out of the back of these letters. This creates a distinguished halo effect around the letters on the wall they’re installed to. For the entire frame of these letters, aluminum is used.

 Back-Lit Letters Back-Lit Letters

Back-Lit Channel Letters – Back-lit channel letters are the lovechild of halo-lit and front-lit channel letters. That is, they have light shining through the front acrylic face as well as a cool halo created by light coming out of the back.

Open Face Letters Open Face Letters

Open Face Channel Letters – When you look at these channel letters, it appears as if the light source isn’t protected from the elements. Resist the urge to cover the letters up for their own protection! They actually have transparent acrylic faces that shelter the lights from the weather while producing a sophisticated appearance at night.

Illumination Alternatives

Channel letters used to rely on neon tubes for their light. These tubes produce a number of different lights depending on the gasses used. Unfortunately, there are several downsides to neon, including a dimming effect in cold weather as well as high maintenance and electricity costs.

When you use LEDs for your channel letters, you get brilliant illumination in any environment. Due to their low maintenance needs and energy efficient properties, LEDs are quickly replacing neon as the main source of channel letter sign illumination. Of course, you can also choose to go stealth mode and have no illumination for your channel letters.

How Are Channel Letters Installed?

We’re able to install your channel letters directly to the exterior of your building, or we’ll mount them on a raceway first and then attach them to your venue. If you don’t want a lot of drilling into the façade of your facility, then raceways are the way to go. Otherwise, you get a cleaner look with directly-mounted letters.

A Holiday Tale: Why We Need Lighted Signs Vancouver WA!

By | Channel Letter Signs, Illuminated Signs, Lighted Signs | No Comments

As the sun dipped below the horizon and the blanket of night began to cover the city streets, I could hear the roar of a siren a few blocks away. I hastened up the street looking for my destination. Was someone following me? The rain picked up a bit in this Pacific Northwest burg. I could no longer distinguish footsteps behind me from the downpour.

I knew it would be difficult to find my destination since they don’t use lighted signs despite being open at night, which creeps up earlier and earlier in the winter even achieving pitch blackness during normal business hours. I rushed down the road at an ever increasing pace splashing through puddles as I went. I finally found the retailer I was seeking. My assailant, a harmless postal delivery worker, followed me in to deliver bills and credit card applications to the establishment’s owner.

I was safe this time, but I warned the shopkeep that the next customer may not be so lucky. Instead, he should contact the mighty sign makers at Specialty Graphic Solutions for the following exterior lighted signs for Vancouver, WA:

Channel Letters

One of the most requested lighted sign options in Vancouver and across the country is channel letter signs. You’ll find them on retail stores, industrial buildings, commercial offices, and eerily creepy downtown locations.

They’re celebrated for their versatility and affordability. We can individually install channel letter to your building or mount them on a raceway first. Many building owners will want you to use raceways since they require less drilling into the façade of the building. There are many different channel letters to choose from, including open face and halo-lit.

Lightbox Cabinets

Do you constantly get phone calls from indignant consumers claiming that you don’t have a brick-and-mortar location? They insist that they tried to frequent your business, but it just doesn’t exist. If this sounds familiar or if you just seem to blend in with the other storefronts nearby, it may be time to consider lightbox cabinet signs.

These markers are made of top-quality extruded aluminum. The cabinets are protected from gloomy weather conditions by durable paint and a powder coating. Lightbox cabinets get their distinguished appearance from their acrylic or plastic push-through faces. For additional strength, they have vacuum formed faces.

Monuments with Cabinets

One of the most attention-grabbing signs you can choose is a monument sign. They’re big enough to be seen from far away to give drivers plenty of time to slow down and turn without having to brake-check everyone driving behind them. Everyone will see you after dark when you incorporate cabinets into your monument sign. These cabinets have messages you can change manually. Schools and churches have been using these markers for decades.

After I gave the shopkeep this in-depth description of various markers he could use to boost sales and keep customers safe, I tossed some wet, crumbled currency on the counter, told him to keep the change, and suggested he contact SGS today for a free consultation on exterior lighted signs for Vancouver, WA.

Exterior Signs Announce New Heights Physical Therapy’s New Location in Portland!

By | Channel Letter Signs, Exterior Signs, Illuminated Signs | No Comments

It’s not much of a stretch to suggest you need your name on the outside of your storefront if you want to attract business and let customers know where you are. New Heights Physical Therapy was well-aware of this, so they scheduled an appointment with Specialty Graphic Solutions for exterior signs in Portland, OR.

Such Great Heights

With a new location on the west side of Portland on Cornell Road, New Heights Physical Therapy+ continues to expand thanks to their success providing the best quality of physical therapy to help their patients to feel their best at play, home, and at work. They treat everything from osteoporosis, auto injuries, repetitive motion injuries, back pain, bike injuries from crashes caused by gawking at their fabulous new signs, and more. Plus, their methods include microcurrent therapy, manual therapy, STEP therapy, and others. They essentially do it all.

We jumped at the chance to help out an enterprise that supplies such a valuable service to local residents when they came to us for channel letter signs for Portland, OR. We have a little history with New Heights. Back in March, they came to us for other exterior signs at their Northeast Glisan Street location. They knew we had the range of motion needed to provide a variety of signage types throughout all of Portland.

We Performed Signage Therapy

After an initial consultation, we learned that New Heights needed a couple different types of markers at their venue: an illuminated channel letter sign and a “flag” sign. We already had their artwork on file so it was easy for us to draw up some proofs of what their finished markers would look like. Once they approved, we were off and running.

First off, we created the illuminated channel letters. These were individual letters that make up the company’s logo. We shaped the letters to match the unique fonts New Heights uses in their logo. We then incorporated LED lights inside to illuminate the sign from within. This makes the marker easy to see at night and during the day. We used white acrylic faces to contrast against the natural, stained wood sign band on the building.

The letters were mounted to raceways, or mounting rails, that match the wood background to seamlessly blend in. Raceways are an excellent choice since they require little drilling into the façade of the building. The client was thrilled with this. The overall size of this channel letter sign is almost fifteen feet wide. The “New Heights” text is 16.25” high, and “Physical” is 17.5” tall.

For the flag sign we installed on the pole sign in front of the building, we used a polycarbonate panel with full-color digital prints on each side so cars driving down Cornell can see the New Heights name far enough ahead to avoid needing to slam on their brakes to make the turn. After all, whiplash would be counterproductive!

In the end, the client was completely satisfied. In fact, Kevin Poe, the Co-Founder of New Heights, contacted us to say, “The signs look fantastic!”
