We have a lot of fun with signs here at Specialty Graphic Solutions, but some signs aren’t meant to be exciting or to promote your message. The government is always making us get serious by requiring certain signs in businesses across the country. However, as with every project, we approach custom laminated HR posters in Vancouver, WA with pizzazz (and maybe pizzas if we’re hungry.)
We recommend that you grab a cup of strong coffee before reading these requirements. Okay, are you ready? Here are the federally required posters:
- Equal Opportunity Employment is the Law
- Fair Labor Standards Act (FSLA) Federal Minimum Wage Poster
- Employee Polygraph Protection Act
- Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993
- Your Rights under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act
- Affordable Care Act Poster
Now, in the state of Washington, you’re required to have the following:
- Job Safety and Health Law
- Your Rights as a Worker
- Notice to Employees – If a Job Injury Occurs
- Notice to Employees – Self-Insured Businesses (only required for self-insured businesses)
- Unemployment Benefits poster
- Church and Religious Organizations poster
- Washington State Law Prohibits Discrimination in Employment
All of these posters must be posted where workers can read them. So, no posting them on the bottom of a refrigerator or in the cubicle of that smelly guy no one wants to be around.
In addition to the above, you must have a number of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) signs. However, these markers are specific to your organization. For instance, you don’t need to warn people about methane on the premises unless you actually have canisters of it or if you run a Mexican restaurant.
OSHA standards cover such things as caution signs, chemical hazmat signs, fire safety markers, hand washing reminders for your restrooms, directional arrows pointing the way to first aid stations, and much more. If you’re not sure what you need, we can perform a site survey and make recommendations!
What Signs Are a Good Idea to Have Anyway?
Your temptation may be to just get the required signs and call it good. If you do this, how will people know not to steal other people’s food out of the breakroom refrigerator? Or, who’s to stop them from flushing sanitary napkins down the toilet? Consequently, you may also want to post certain policies that you want to make sure employees are well aware of. You can get this done with laminated markers.
HR signs aren’t just about rules and regulations. They can be fun too. For instance, human resources directors have had a lot of success motivating workers with employee-of-the-month incentive programs. That’s just what Vesta wanted to do when they contacted us for custom laminated HR posters in Vancouver, WA. They created a program where they celebrated an Associate of the Month using the poster we provided them with. Then, at the end of the year, they’re going to pay a year’s rent or mortgage for one of the randomly chosen award recipients.
