Dimensional Lettering for Banks and Credit Unions in Portland

By | Brushed Laminate Letters, Dimensional Letter Signs, Lobby Signs | No Comments

What do you think about when you hear the term “one-dimensional”? If you’re into geometry, you might envision a line. No one likes lines. Besides, lines make for terrible signs. This is why we offer three-dimensional signs instead of just one-dimensional signs. Portland Local 8 Federal Credit Union wanted all three dimensions for their dimensional lettering for banks in Portland, Oregon, so they contacted the pros at Specialty Graphic Solutions.

What’s So Great about Portland Local 8?

Located on Northwest Front Avenue in Portland, Portland Local 8 Federal Credit Union (FCU) was founded in 1954 by Homer D. MacDonald and six other members of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union. Their mission is to offer a welcoming environment while striving to become the primary financial institution for their members. They provide competitive loan rates and dividends on deposits. And, they’re always expanding their services as well as supplying education on financial issues.

 Installing the dimensional letters!

Installing the dimensional letters!

When an organization that does so much to help union members achieve financial security came to us for dimensional lettering for credit unions in Portland, Oregon, they knew they could bank on our support. Portland Local 8 FCU has a small branch, and they wanted to put lettering on a gorgeous wood wall behind their teller stations. Our mighty sign makers knew just what to do.

We Were Right on the Money

First thing’s first, we needed to meet with the client to discuss what they had in mind for their project. This included performing a site survey where our mighty sign maker Taylor closely examined the curvature of the wood wall where the letters were to be installed and took some measurements. We needed to be sure the letters of their dimensional letter sign were sized appropriately to fit the curve.

A popular lettering option for financial institutions and really any organization that wants to project professionalism and longevity is metal letters. And, though Portland Local 8 FCU is essentially made of money, they didn’t want to shell out an arm and a leg for their new markers. Fortunately, we had a smart solution.

We started with 3/8” thick black acrylic letters and added a metal laminate face. SGS offers a wide range of metal laminate finishes. For this project, the client preferred brushed silver. Once the letters were ready, it was time to mount the letters. Typically, we’d drill holes into the wall and mount the letters on studs. But, Portland Local 8 FCU didn’t want to put the beautiful wood wall through that. Thankfully, we were able to flush mount the letters using strong adhesives.

In the end, Portland Local 8 FCU gave us credit for a job well done. Best of all, they can be sure they’ll be looking great far into the future since we offer a lifetime warranty on this and similar signs.

Portland Local 8 FCU isn’t our only client. They aren’t even the only credit union we do work for. We can provide dimensional letter signs for organizations in any industry. Don’t believe us? Try contacting us today for a free consultation, and we’ll give you solutions specifically tailored to your enterprise.

Does Your Lobby Sign Brand Your Company?

By | Interior Signs, Lobby Signs | No Comments

What types of businesses don’t want you to know that they exist? Spy agencies may be one. Drug rings are another. Even these organizations have locations where their “employees” congregate. However, it’s highly unlikely that they have a nice sign welcoming in customers. That could blow their whole cover!

Now, go into your lobby area. Do you have an attractive reception area marker that lets visitors know they’ve found the right place? If not, it’s likely your receptionist is bombarded with questions like “Is this *insert name of your company here*?” or “Have I stumbled into a drug ring or a spy agency?”

You don’t want potential clients thinking you’re running drugs (unless, of course, you’re one of the legal dispensaries.) To help you with this, we offer a broad range of lobby signs for Portland, OR. Check out some of our popular options.

Raised Shapes and Letters

Take a moment to look at the raised lettering lobby sign we produced for Vesta Hospitality. This is a great example of the many services we offer. The letters are thick to give the sign a dimensional look. We even mounted the letters with standoffs to make them pop even more and to create an elegant play of light and shadows. We were able to route the raised shapes to perfectly replicate their logo.

Acrylic Panels

Acrylic panels achieve their maximum impact when they’re layered. For the lobby marker we produced for CriterionBrock, the graphics are layered to project a sophisticated appearance. Acrylic lends a shiny look that’s similar to glass, yet less expensive and more durable.

The layered look is also on display with the BnK Construction piece we fabricated. The acrylic panel has frosted vinyl graphics and is mounted a few inches away from the brushed aluminum panel that’s installed flush with the wall. As you can see, the lighting really makes the shadows of the letters stand out for a breathtaking “how do you do” for visitors.

Dimensional Signs

We love working with iQ Credit Union. For their lobby sign, we kept it simple. Conventional thinking would suggest “Hey! You can’t put an all-white sign on a white wall! That’s goofballs!” And, for most sign companies, this is sound advice. However, Specialty Graphic Solutions isn’t like most signs companies. We have enough experience to know that a dimensional sign will stand out at close proximity no matter the colors. And, as you can see, we were right!

These are just a few examples of what we can do for reception area signs for Portland, OR. Do you run an enterprise that specializes in natural products or services, such as massage therapy or homeopathic remedies? It’s only natural for you to want natural materials for your venue. We typically produce wood or stone reception signs for these situations.

Are you tired of people coming to your storefront for illegal drugs and/or spy services? Want to boost your branding and make a great first impression? Contact the mighty sign makers at SGS today for a free quote and consultation on lobby signs!

Need a Lobby Sign Refresh? Greycourt & Co. Did

By | Inside Signs, Lobby Signs | No Comments

Moving your offices to a new location can get expensive. One way you can help cut some of the costs is by bringing as much of your old equipment with you as possible. This includes packing your original signage up and bringing it along. Unfortunately, what works with one location may not work with another. This is what happened to Greycourt. Thankfully, they called in the professionals at Specialty Graphic Solutions to save the day.

About Greycourt

Greycourt & Co., Inc. has been giving comprehensive advice to sophisticated investors for more than a quarter century. Before starting Greycourt, founder Gregory Curtis was president of a family office for a branch of the Mellon family. Greycourt has grown into an investment firm that manages about $9 billion in client assets. They operate four offices across the United States, including their recently relocated office on Southwest Washington Street in downtown Portland.

Greycourt came to us because they had a beautiful lobby sign that simply didn’t fit the décor of their new office space. The marker they brought with them was about seven-and-a-half feet long and featured raised letters on a metallic gold “shadow” and mounted on a glass panel. However, the new office had a sleek, contemporary brushed silver look. This wouldn’t do!

How We Fixed This Problem

When Greycourt called SGS to see what we could do, we had to head down to their offices to get a firsthand look before making recommendations. At SGS, we like to recycle or reuse materials whenever possible to save our clients’ money and to save everyone’s environment. Fortunately, our mighty sign makers determined that the reception area sign didn’t need to be replaced. We just needed to switch out a couple design elements.

Our first step was to abscond with the lobby sign (with Greycourt’s approval of course). We realize how important having a lobby marker is to a company, so we worked quickly and with minimal disruption to their business.

Once we were in the shop, we removed the letters and the layer of metallic gold from the glass panel. We then used brushed silver vinyl that matches the new reception desk. And, we were particularly proud that we were able to salvage the raised letters and reapply them to the silver vinyl. Our professionals are just that good.

Finally, we replaced the wood and gold mounting hardware with standoffs featuring a matte silver finish. We could go on about how awesome of a job we did, but instead, here’s what the client has to say: “It looks fabulous!”

You Really Oughta Have Lobby Signs

Clients learn a lot about your business just by looking at your reception area signs. Portland, OR companies can show off their culture and values with the appropriate signage. It works much like how people dress. For example, Portland is quirky and all, but you’d probably be more than a little bit uncomfortable having a guy in a chef’s hat work on your car. Likewise, your interior design firm may not get much business if your reception area sign clashes with the rest of your décor. You want to present a consistent front to build your brand.

Are you ready to brand and welcome visitors to your building with lobby signs? Portland, OR can turn to the mighty sign makers at SGS for all of their signage needs.
