How Long Does a Car Wrap Last

By | Vehicle Wrap

This post talks about how to make a car wrap last.  With a vehicle wrap, it is important to have professionals installing the graphics. It might seem easy slapping down one giant sticker but there’s a lot that goes into getting a flawless and professional finish. The team at SGS uses the best vinyls that are specifically made for vehicles. It is tempting to cut out some steps and do it yourself but you run the risk of counterfeit products which don’t perform the same.

There’s a lot of factors that impact how many years you’ll get out of your vehicle wrap. But the most common range is three to five years. That’s pretty fantastic for essentially a mobile billboard for your brand. Even better, no need to get sign permits for a vehicle wrap!

As we’ve covered in Getting the Most Miles Out of Your Vehicle Wrap post, protection is important. If available, park your vehicle in a covered space to minimize weather. This is especially crucial if you live somewhere prone to a lot of snow storms and cold snaps.

Treat your ride right with frequent hand washing with mild soap and warm water to clean off any grime or dirt. It is tempting to go for the drive-thru car washes or power nozzles but the force and pressure can cause the vinyl to lift away.

When you’re ready for a new look or need to update information on the wrap – contact the SGS team because we’ll make sure it is done right. We’ve got the training and tools to remove the wraps and keep your ride looking right.

How To Care For Your Vehicle Graphics

By | User Guide | No Comments

If you’re thinking about investing in fleet graphics or even a full wrap on your car, truck or van you’re probably wondering what it takes to maintain and care for them.  Wonder no more – here’s a handy list of what to do and what to avoid to help you care for vinyl vehicle graphics and keep them looking great!

DO

The right care will keep your graphics looking nice so you get noticed.

The right care will keep your graphics looking nice so you get noticed.

  • Hand wash your car/truck/van whenever possible.  Use a blend of mild (non-abrasive) car wash detergent and clean water

  • Test any cleaning solution on a small section of the vinyl graphic before using on the entire vehicle

  • Thoroughly rinse away soapy water with clean water to avoid build up of detergents / contaminants

  • Let the vehicle air dry or dry off with a microfiber cloth

  • Use only a brushless automatic car wash if you are not able to hand wash your vehicle

  • Soften difficult contaminants like bug splatter, bird droppings and tree sap by soaking them for several minutes with very hot, soapy water. If needed, a blend of two parts isopropyl alcohol to one part water may also help.  Spot clean the contaminants but do not use rough scrubbing or abrasive tools which will scratch the graphics.  Wash and rinse off all residue immediately.

  • Remember – just like paint your vehicle graphics will degrade with prolonged exposure to sun and contaminants in the atmosphere.  You want to show off your graphics, but when you’re not out there getting noticed it’s best to park your vehicle indoors or in a shady area.

  • In rare cases, acidic pollution can cause the vinyl to discolor / turn brown.  If this occurs, bring your vehicle in to SGS right away so we can remove the vinyl and help avoid staining of the underlying paint.

DO NOT

  • Allow fuels to stay in contact with the vinyl for extended periods of time.  Clean all spills as soon as possible.
  • Use mechanical brush washing.  Brushes can cause vinyl graphics to chip or peel around the edges or scratch the surface.  They can also cause the graphic to fade and dull the appearance of the laminate.
  • Use wax on your vehicle graphics if possible.  Many waxes require heavy buffing which can scratch your graphics.  And wax can melt at high temperatures and cause dirt to stick to the vinyl and/or create greasy-looking stains.
  • Pressure wash your car/truck/van unless you have no other practical option.  If you do need to pressure wash, stay below 2000psi, keep water temperature below 80 degrees, use a 40+ degree wide angle spray pattern, keep the nozzle at least 12 inches from the graphic and NEVER use a turbo nozzle!

Any other questions? Contact the team at SGS!  We’ll be happy to talk to you about keeping your ride looking fresh. You can reach us at 360-635-5556 or at hello@sgsgraphic.com.  Better yet – bring your car, truck or van and come visit us in person!

This Bus Wrap Is Too Cool For School

By | Vehicle Wrap | No Comments

Learning Avenues Child Care Center brought us their well-traveled yellow school bus for a stunning makeover. The Learning Avenues team knew they were missing an opportunity to market their services to potential customers while transporting children to and from area schools. After talking various vehicle branding options with us, Executive Director Jerry Todd decided a full vehicle wrap would be the perfect solution for this bus.

 The always crucial

The always crucial “before” picture in a makeover!

Primed and ready! The super guys over at Jacobus CARSTAR completely removed all the numbering and lettering so we would have a clear surface for the wrap. Some areas of the bus were sanded to ensure the wrap would really stick.

The mirrors were removed so the graphics could be applied more easily. We even took off all the light covers and scrubbed them up so the finished product would really shine.

The simple design of the bus was done by Amanda Tuttle of a.tuttle design.  It’s eye catching and features the colorful tree from the logo super-sized to cover large portions of both sides as well as the back of the bus. The parts of the tree that cover the windows are printed on a perforated material that allows children to see out while folks on the outside see the design. The finished bus is sure to catch lots of attention wherever it goes.

This video shows the process of the wrap being installed on the bus. A couple of days and voila!  The bus was taken from standard issue yellow to a sharp white with custom design.
