Push Thru Sign for Legacy 6

By | Export, Truck Lettering, Uncategorized, USDOT Lettering
push through acrylic lit sign with brushed aluminum

Push thru signs use a solid piece of acrylic that is routed into letters then inserted into the sign face.  In this case, we used clear acrylic letters with a translucent green vinyl to give the sign the glow.  The number 6 in the logo is clear acrylic with a brushed aluminum laminate face.  This creates a halo-lit effect for just that element.  The sign itself is a lighted cabinet.  The led strip lights inside create a very even light distribution.  The face of the cabinet had the same letters routed out so the acrylic letters can ‘push thru’.

Legacy 6 Construction takes great pride in their logo and lighted push thru signs create a modern look in their office lobby.  The first impression some customers get is your business lobby.  A lighted lobby sign like the one here is unique and eye-catching.

How To Display DOT Numbers On Your Company Vehicles

Do I Need USDOT Numbers On My Commercial Vehicles?

Currently, 37 states require commercial vehicles to display DOT numbers.  For some reason, it is really hard to find out how to properly display them on your truck.  Fortunately, The Mighty Sign Makers have got your (DOT) number.  Here’s the short version:

DOT numbers must be located on the cab door or just to the right of the door when facing the cab.  The number must be on both the driver and passenger sides.  Colors must “contrast sharply” with background colors and be large enough to be seen from a minimum distance of 50 feet during daylight hours when the vehicle is stationary.   – Source Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Administration (FMVSA)

Our letter visibility chart shows that 2 inches, or taller, lettering is visible from 50 feet.

Seems simple enough.  Most companies use block letters but a fancier font can be used as long as the writing is legible.  The vast majority of companies use long-lasting vinyl lettering for vehicle lettering.  The lettering is typically in white or black but it can be any color as long as there is a sharp contrast with the color of the vehicle.  If you run with a lot of chrome, the lettering can be chrome as long as it contrasts.  Since the vehicle is new, newly painted, or new to you, we suggest that you add your company contact information, and logo at the same time.

Information to display?

According to the Motor Carriers Guide to Improve Highway Safety, Vehicle Identification (390.21), every commercial motor vehicle operated by a motor carrier in interstate commerce must be marked, on BOTH sides of the vehicle, with the following:

  • The motor carrier’s name or trade name
  • The motor carrier’s identification number, preceded by “US DOT”
  • The size, shape and color markings must be in letters that contrast sharply in color with the background on which the letters are placed
  • The lettering must be readily legible during daylight hours, from a distance of 50 feet.

What else should you put on the sides of your vehicle?  Your truck is one of the public faces of your company.  Use it to promote your company with logos, taglines, contact information, and phone or website.

What are the USDOT Number requirements?

Now we are getting into regulations which can change so you shouldn’t rely solely on the Mighty Sign Makers’ blog post.  Just about every state has adopted the FMCSA rules which require all interstate carriers and intrastate carriers need to have US DOT numbers.  Both Washington and Oregon follow the FMCSA guidelines.  According to the FMCSA website, you are required to obtain a USDOT number if you have a vehicle that:

  • Is used to transport the types and quantities of hazardous materials requiring a safety permit in intrastate commerce (see 49 CFR 385.403).

  • Has a gross vehicle weight rating or gross combination weight rating, or gross vehicle weight or gross combination weight, of 4,536 kg (10,001 pounds) or more, whichever is greater; or
  • Is designed or used to transport more than 8 passengers (including the driver) for compensation; or
  • Is designed or used to transport more than 15 passengers, including the driver, and is not used to transport passengers for compensation

AND is involved in Interstate Commerce:

Trade, traffic, or transportation in the United States—

  • Between a place in a State and a place outside of such State (including a place outside of the United States);
  • Between two places in a State through another State or a place outside of the United States; or
  • Between two places in a State as part of trade, traffic, or transportation originating or terminating outside the State or the United States.

What about displaying Operating Authority (MC number)?

If you are required to have an MC number then the display requirements are the same as the DOT number.

Where do I go to get high-quality numbers, lettering, and logos?

At Specialty Graphic Solutions we only use the highest quality materials that are designed for long life during outdoor automotive use.  We use 3M, Avery and Oracal vinyl which we feel are the best products on the market.  The Mighty Sign Makers can install the graphics for a professional look.  Why use a company like Specialty Graphic Solutions?  Because we care about our customers and their needs and we do things right the first time.  About 80% of our business is repeat or referral.  We are particularly good at working with fleets of vehicles.

Transportation Company Brands with Truck Graphics and USDOT Lettering in Vancouver WA!

By | Truck Lettering, USDOT Lettering, Vehicle Vinyl Lettering | No Comments

Vehicle graphics are the best way to market your business when on the road. No one is disputing that. The problem is that when you’re hauling cargo from here to Beantown 24/7, it’s difficult to put your rig out of commission long enough to give your ride some style. Thankfully, Krontrans Transport came to Specialty Graphic Solutions where we worked with his schedule to install truck graphics and USDOT lettering in Vancouver, WA for transportation companies.

Kron Gets the Job Done

Based on Southeast 136th Avenue in Vancouver, Krontrans Transport, Inc. is the business of an owner-operator long haul trucker. The enterprise is relatively new and looking to build its clientele. He transports paper products, fresh produce, refrigerated food, general freight, beverages, and much more. Basically, if you need to get something from Point A to Point B, he’s your man.

When an entrepreneur who does so much to help local businesses transport their goods came to us for truck graphics and USDOT lettering in Vancouver, WA for transportation companies, we said, “10-4, Good Buddy!” Krontrans had a gorgeous Volvo truck, and he wanted us to help him boost its looks. Fortunately, this wasn’t our mighty sign makers’ first rodeo.

We Kept Krontrans on the Road

Our first step with any project is to meet with the client to discuss their goals and to get a look at their vehicle. This is kind of awkward when the project is a lobby sign, and there’s no apparent reason for us to check out their vehicle, but alas, we do an excellent job, so no one complains.

In addition to USDOT numbers, Krontrans wanted us to make his graphic logo a reality. Based on his description, we created the logo, a horsehead with an element of forward motion done in Chrome to match the existing Volvo lettering, which he wanted to keep.

Since the truck is his livelihood and if it isn’t moving he isn’t making money, we did the job in multiple phases to minimize the impact on his operations. As the proverb goes, “a rolling stone gathers no moss,” and we don’t want our customers to be mossy on our account.

Nothing “Phases” Us

The first phase was to remove the old vinyl and to take measurements for the new design. This was a big leap of faith for the owner because if the print wasn’t just right, it would mean more downtime. He then hit the road with a delivery, and when he came on back, we gave him art proofs of what the finished product would look like. He approved it and hit the road yet again. While he was haulin’ widgets, we printed the graphics and pre-staged everything to ensure the installation went quickly and smoothly.

When Krontrans came by one final time, our Mighty Sign Makers quickly installed the graphics, and off he went again. In the end, we delivered, and Krontrans couldn’t be happier. Now, his logo and our work are seen everywhere he goes.

The Amazing Power of Fleet Graphics in Portland Oregon

By | Fleet Graphics, Truck Lettering, Vehicle Vinyl Lettering | No Comments

With all of the money you spend on buying, insuring, and maintaining your fleet vehicles, it may be hard for you to loosen your purse strings for yet another expense. However, if you want to be sure that you have any money in your purse (or wallet or bank account) in the future, it’s imperative that you make the minor investment in fleet graphics in Portland, Oregon.

Let’s look at a fictitious example…

Business A performs incredible work. Their competitor, Business B, performs okay work. They get the job done, but it’s nothing to write home about. Business A uses plain work vehicles with no identifying markings. When they’re on the job site, no one can tell who’s performing the excellent work. Business B has fleet graphics. You can easily tell who’s on the job wherever they may roam.

Now, let’s fast forward to a few months later, and you’re in need of the services that both Businesses A and B provide. Who’re you going to call? It’s unlikely you’ll call Business A – even though they do superior work – because you don’t even know their name. On the other hand, Business B does a passable job, and you’re familiar with their brand. Even if you did know Business A’s name, you’re likely to forget it by the time you need their services. But, if they had vehicle graphics, you’d be reminded as you saw their trucks on the road.

Don’t Be Business A

Is your organization the Clyde Drexler of its industry, but you can’t seem to find enough work? Maybe it’s time for a little investment in vehicle graphics to really boost your name recognition. Here are our slam dunk recommendations:

Truck Lettering – We recommend vinyl lettering to enterprises that want to put their name on their entire fleet without breaking the bank. There are dozens of standard colors and fonts to pick from. Or, we can custom print your letters to match your other marketing materials. If you really want to turn heads, consider metallic, neon, matte, carbon fiber, or reflective vinyl styles.

Spot Graphics – Also referred to as vinyl decals, spot graphics are the most affordable way to put your logo on your fleet. They can also be used to highlight pictures of your handiwork and best-selling products. Spot graphics work perfectly in conjunction with vehicle lettering.

Perforated Window Vinyl – What kind of irresponsible moron covers up their windows with graphics? Woah, hey, let’s not judge just yet! With perforated window vinyl, you can cover any of your rear windows with your marketing message while still allowing the driver to see out. The secret is tiny holes. We only provide this for rear windows, though. We’re not irresponsible morons!

We’ve discussed a lot of budget friendly options above, but if you really want to get the attention of absolutely everyone, we recommend full vehicle wraps. These are a little bit pricey, but they make a big splash.

If you’re tired of losing work to businesses that simply aren’t as good as your enterprise, contact the mighty sign makers at Specialty Graphic Solutions today for a free consultation on fleet graphics in Portland, Oregon. We’ll help you out.

Why Choose Vehicle Vinyl Lettering in Vancouver?

By | Truck Lettering, Vehicle Vinyl Lettering, Vehicle Vinyl Logos | No Comments

Emojis are all the rage these days. It seems like just about every text we get from friends features an emoji that leaves their message ambiguous and confusing. Now, as a sign company that prides itself on being able to do anything, we can render your company’s information on your fleet vehicles using emojis, but consumers will likely be all like “OMG! WTF?” That’s why Specialty Graphic Solutions offers vehicle vinyl lettering in Vancouver, WA instead of emojis. But, how’s lettering used? We’re glad you asked. Check out these uses:

Put Your Courtesy Shuttles to Work

If you provide a courtesy shuttle to your auto dealership, hotel, car rental business, or any other enterprise, vinyl lettering is a must. You show prospective customers that you take care of your clients when you outfit your vans with spot graphics and lettering. This also helps you advertise to your target audience. For instance, your hotel courtesy shuttle reaches jet-setters, vacationers, business people, and others who like to travel as you pick up and drop off guests at the airport.

Direct Hungry People to Your Eatery

Does your restaurant offer catering services? How do people find out about this offering? Many establishments think that a little ad in an easy-to-miss spot on your menu will be just the shot in the arm your catering services need to get off the ground. Think again. You need your delivery van or car to feature your name and logo if you really want event planners to associate your diner with catering for a banquet or party. This will also advertise your popular dishes and cuisine.

If you operate a food truck, how do you set yourself apart from the other trucks in the vicinity? You must use vibrant letters to publicize your menu items. Fortunately, we have matte, reflective, neon, and metallic style letters in whatever colors you want. When your truck has your logo and name on it, you’ll boost your brand awareness. This is important if you want hungry boys and girls to seek you out and base their dining decisions on whether you’re around or not.

Install a Billboard on the Job Site

Say what? Most contractors never consider installing billboards on their job sites. Most homeowners or businesses wouldn’t allow it. Or, would they? When you add vehicle vinyl lettering in Vancouver, WA, you transform your work vehicle into a billboard on wheels. This essentially turns all of your job sites into giant advertisements for your enterprise whether you’re an electrician, handyman, plumber, heating and air conditioning professionals, or any other type of contractor.

Even if you use your personal vehicle for work, there are still numerous reasons to add truck lettering. For instance, you can benefit from a lettered car if you travel around teaching cooking classes. You’ll expose teachers and students to your branding. In addition, you build brand recognition, show goodwill, and generate buzz when you show up with vinyl lettering.

This is just a taste of what we can do. If you want solutions specifically tailored to your needs, contact the mighty sign makers at SGS today for a free quote.

Why Invest in Fleet Graphics in Vancouver?

By | Fleet Graphics, Truck Lettering, Vehicle Vinyl Lettering | No Comments

There’s nothing more frustrating than spending thousands of dollars on an ad campaign and experiencing no increase in sales. This leaves a sinking feeling in the stomachs of business owners and fleet managers. Fortunately, Specialty Graphic Solutions has a sure-fire way to keep your stomach feeling great! No, we’re not talking about Pepto-Bismol. We’re talking about always-effective fleet graphics in Vancouver. Why should you invest in vehicle graphics? Check out these reasons:

You’ll Protect Your Vehicles

For the most part, the roads of the Pacific Northwest are pretty gentle on paint jobs. However, we still get our fair share of light scratches, UV rays, and stone chips. All of these can be protected against with a vehicle wrap. In fact, vinyl wraps can even minimize paintwork damage caused by serious accidents.

By keeping your factory paint in good shape, you’ll protect the resale value of your trucks. Also, with vehicle wraps, you can outfit your vehicles with your gouge-your-eyes-out lime green corporate colors and still be able to sell your vehicles later on. We simply remove your wrap. When you choose to paint your vehicles, it’s much more expensive to get your car back to its original color.

You’ll Advertise Your Company the Cost-Effective Way

Since they’re constantly on the road, fleet vehicles are naturally seen by millions of motorists and pedestrians throughout the year. And, provided you don’t get in an accident, there are no long-term costs for this marketing option.

As a matter of fact, it’ll only cost you an average of a couple bucks a day even when you choose one of the more expensive full vehicle wraps. Also, consumers remember seeing these graphics. 97 percent of respondents to a survey conducted by 3M recalled seeing advertisements on trucks.

You’ll Reach Everybody

Okay. So maybe that’s an exaggeration but not by much. There may be some hermits out there who haven’t left their home since the Carter administration and thus won’t see your wraps, but they weren’t going to be good customers for your enterprise anyway.

On the other hand, you can expect to reach up to 3,000 people per hour in busy places in Vancouver and Portland. You’ll have the opportunity to show off your brand’s personality and connect with potential customers wherever you drive.

You’ll Market 24/7

And, if, in the coming years, Congress introduces more hours to the day, you’ll be able to market your business during those hours as well. Your fleet will get your information in front of plenty of eyes every day as you’re parked along busy roadways or as you run errands, make deliveries, or travel to job sites.

According to a recent survey, consumers has favorable impressions of 75 percent of businesses that use mobile advertising. Also, most people get the feeling that companies that use vehicle graphics are more established and successful. This makes vinyl decals an excellent solution for startups.

This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to ways investing in fleet graphics in Vancouver can help your enterprise. Contact the mighty sign makers at SGS today if you’re interested in learning about specific ways we can assist your business.

Box Truck Graphics Advertise for Richart Builders in Vancouver WA!

By | Box Truck Graphics, Truck Lettering, Vehicle Vinyl Lettering | No Comments

If Hollywood movies are any indication, not even FBI surveillance vans are free of vehicle graphics. They almost always advertise a fake flower delivery company or some other made up enterprise. If even spies understand the benefits of vinyl graphics, why are your work trucks missing identifying marks?

Richart Family Incorporated understood the importance of using box track graphics for remodeling contractors in Vancouver, WA to create 24/7 moving billboards. That’s why they called in the experts at Specialty Graphic Solutions for their new vehicle.

What Does Richart Do?

Located on Northeast 20th Avenue in Vancouver, Richart Family Incorporated is a general contracting business that serves commercial and residential customers in Washington and Oregon by offering remodeling, energy conservation, and building services. They’ve been at it for more than three decades. Their success is due to their mission of providing the best quality of energy conservation construction services in an efficient, environmentally sound, and safe manner through a business culture of teamwork and family values.

When a company that does such fine work for the area came to us for box truck graphics for Vancouver, WA, we were more than happy to help. This wasn’t Richart’s first rodeo. We have a long history of producing van and truck graphics, construction site signs, yard signs, flyers, and business cards for them. They knew they could count on us to deliver with our box truck graphics. And, spoiler alert: we did!

We Gave Them the Patented SGS Treatment

The gang at Richart Builders are really a terrific bunch. And, they’re smart cookies for using their fleet of vehicles to advertise their business. In fact, the moment they got their new 24-foot-long box truck, they brought it over to us. The truck literally only had ten miles on the odometer when it got here!

It’s a blower truck that’s used to blow insulation into residential and commercial buildings in order to make them more energy efficient. Just the two sides of the truck alone give them more than 400 square feet of advertising space to work with. Our mighty sign makers were chomping at the bit to do something fun with that canvas.

We worked with Richart’s branding to produce graphics that would boost their name recognition as well as let motorists and passersby know what it is they specialize in. When we had the lettering and logos ready, we scheduled a time to install their new graphics. It just so happened to work out that our mighty sign makers Taylor and Jason had a beautiful sunny day to do the work. That’s some big news in January in the Pacific Northwest! Sure, we would’ve gotten the job done rain or shine, but it was just nice to be dry and in shirt sleeves in the “dead” of winter!

In the end, Richart thought we did a bang up job! Now, as their box truck is on the road five days a week, it’ll be reaching literally thousands of drivers every day.

Are you ready to get a high ROI for your marketing budget? Contact SGS today for a free consultation! We’ll even help you if you run a spy agency. We totally won’t tell anyone.

Questions? Drop us a line at hello@SGSgraphic.com or call us at (360) 635-5556 and unless we’re up to our elbows in alligators, a live person will answer. If you leave a message we will call you back pronto.

Be Seen with Vehicle Lettering and Logos in Portland OR!

By | Truck Lettering, Vehicle Vinyl Lettering, Vehicle Vinyl Logos | No Comments

Here at Specialty Graphic Solutions, whenever we see a work vehicle that doesn’t have graphics on it, we like to surmise possible reasons for that. Was the business a victim of identity theft? Do they already have too many customers, and they’re trying to keep new clients from calling them? Are they running a spy service? Wait a minute: even spy vehicles have fake company names on the outside. What could the reason be?

As you may have guessed, all of the above are unlikely scenarios. From talking to new clients, the main reason it took them so long to install vehicle lettering was that they assumed it would be too expensive. They’re almost always pleasantly surprised when we hand them an estimate. What’re you waiting for? In case you need a little more prodding, here’s a sampling of what we can do with vehicle lettering and logos for Portland, OR.

We’ll Spell It out for You with Vehicle Lettering

Sure, you want high contrast on your white work van, but plain black lettering just doesn’t cut it in Portland these days with so many advertisements vying for consumers’ attention. Instead, we recommend incorporating a variety of colors to really catch the eyes of drivers and pedestrians. Vinyl lettering is available in all fonts, colors, typefaces, and several styles, including reflective, matte, neon, metallic, and more.

Since passersby only have a couple seconds to read your message, we strongly recommend just including your company name, contact information, and maybe a list of services on the rear of your vehicle where people stuck in traffic can read it. Though it may be tempting and we can definitely do it, you might want to refrain from incorporating the entire text of Ulysses into your vehicle graphics. It’ll just confuse people.

Good Spot Graphic Logos Fetch Customers

Spot graphics are the ideal way to showcase your company logo. With our large format digital printer and fancy software, we can render any images on top-quality vinyl specifically designed for use on vehicles. Better yet, we can precisely match your company colors and graphics. This is a must if you want to build brand recognition and inspire trust in your service area. After all, people are much more likely to go with your products or services if they’ve heard of them!

In addition, spot graphics are great for displaying images of your handiwork or bestselling products. And, they work well in conjunction with vinyl lettering. The letters spell out your name, phone number, and website while the spot graphics make your logo shine.

We Have Solutions for All Budgets

Contacting SGS for a free quote is absolutely free. Free. After you pay us an initial consultation fee of ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, we’ll listen to what you have in mind for your project and how much money you’re working with.
